3-D Rust Wall Hanging

This is another piece in my Rusty Skills series.  I think it is less successful than my rust book but it is not bad.  It is 3-D because the back fabric in stretched on the back of stretcher bars that I painted black.  The front fabric is stretched onto the front of the bars and wrapped around to be stapled to the back.  Both pieces of fabric were repeated rusted.  Below is the wall hanging and then two detail shots.

Rusty Skills Book

I am currently taking another print class.  This is part of a series on the lost skills of everyday sewing.  Now I know that doesn't include you or me but for the general population it is true.  Not only can't they sew their own clothes, they can't mend or sew on a button.  The tradition of passing skills from mother to daughter is gone.  So for this series I used rust to symbolize the neglected and unused skill of sewing.

The outside of my Rusty Skills Book.  Below are some pages.

Texture Tuesday

This one is for Beth.  If you follow her blog you know that this is very similar to one of her favorite marks.  Check it out here at Sew Sew Art.

Finished at Last

This is a continuation from the last post.  Remember the fabric that already had 4 treatments but I still thought it needed one more?  Well here it is.   For this finished piece I did the same treatment as the last one in the previous post.  I simply twisted the material until I could not twist it anymore but this time I dipped it into a bleach solution. The colors are all lightened now and the texture has really increased.  I love it now.

And below are some detail shots.
