Madeline

Madeline...Oh, Madeline...Wherefore art thou, Madeline?  I have my self-portrait for Interpret This! under control (check back on Thursday for the reveal) and have some time today to get you started.  Even better, I can add a row to you and turn you into a Project Linus quilt for a child in Haiti.  Now, where did I put that pattern?

November's Schnibble finds a home

My Winter Picnic has finally gone home to my co-worker's office wall.

A trisket, a tusket, I made Miss Rosie's Tuffet!

I finally found a reason to make one of Miss Rosie's Tuffet to fulfill the December Schnibble challenge!  I had totally given up on it when, on Christmas day, I decided to work on my Black, White, and Red All Over quilt.  It is my scrap quilt that I play with when I am tired of the math and exactness of regular quilt patterns.  It occurred to me that I could make a tuffet out of black, white, and red and incorporate it in the quilt.  The tuffet would feel right at home since fabric and mis-sized blocks from other Schnibbles are also included.

So, here is my Scnibble made in red and white so it will fit into the quilt.  It is the Double Nine Patch.

Here is the tuffet embedded into a larger section of the quilt.

And here are a few more blocks for the quilt.  Other than the Tuffet, everything is leftover fabric and blocks and scraps.  It is so fun putting them all together.  I have almost enough pieces now to make a double bed sized quilt.

Miss Rosie's Tuffets

I had been debating whether to make the Tuffets this month.  I am working on a number of things and don't care for pin cushions.  The biggest plus in the positive column for making the Tuffets was that I thought I could sew a hanger and a tassel on them and call them Christmas Tree Ornaments.  They would make wonderful presents for my tutors.
Well, my quandray was solved with a "snow day" and my work closing for the day.  So with an extra 10 hours today (work time, lunch, and travel time) I figure I can make a few tuffet Christmas Tree Ornaments as presents. LOL  Hmmm...where is that pattern?

October Schnibble is DONE!

Well, maybe not totally done.  I still need to quilt and bind it but the top is done and it is only the 27th.  It varies from the pattern a little.  First I reversed the colors of the blue and green in the 9-patch blocks.  I liked having the blue in the same position in all the 9-patch blocks.  Second change was the piano key border.  I really wanted more of the blue and green on the outside.  I am really pleased with the results.  Tomorrow I will post how I made the snowball blocks.  I changed that a bit also.

Cindy Lou Who

Cindy Lou Who: Everybody seems to kerbabbled. Isn't this just a little superfluous?

I am loving my Cindy Lou Who quilt althought perhaps I should name it the Stu Lou Who quilt since I am making it as a baby quilt for a little boy.  Tomorrow (I hope) will be the big unveiling.  I just need to finish the border and I'll have the top done (and here it is only the 27th of October!)

Cindy Lou Who: [kisses the Grinch on the cheek] Your cheek's so...

The Grinch: I know. Hairy.

Cindy Lou Who: No.

The Grinch: Greasy? Stinky? Do I have a zit?

Cindy Lou Who: No. Warm.  (and so is my Stu Lou Who quilt!)

September's Schnibble

Finally and at last, I have it finished!! It is definitely not show quality but I think turned out okay. I used Mary E. fabric for the centers and some of her coordinating fabric for the surrounding geese. As you can see, I added another row of blocks to make it a bit longer so that it would be a baby quilt for a co-worker. The quilting is all machine quilting in the ditch except for the red border which has linked hearts.

I don't know how well they will show up but here are two more pictures from the quilt. One is the back fabric--a cute animal fabric in black and white-- and the other is one of the center fabrics "Affectionately Yours".

Shibori and Sashiko

Here is the same pattern done in both Shibori (0n right) and Sashiko (on left). What do you think? I missed pulling some threads tight on the Shibori but overall it turned out interesting.

I have in mind a willow tree beside a brook for my next Shibori and Sashiko project. It will be a free hand drawing and then I'll sew and dye from there. But first I have to finish my September Schnibble, order my October Schnibble, make a 9 1/2 inch quilt block for Yankee Quilter's quilt for her friend Laura, and teach youth how to make a fused wall hanging self-portrait.

I was making great progress on my September Schnibble Sunday until I broke my needle. It is assembled, pen basted, and half quilted. I will finish it tonight and hopefully post the picture tomorrow. I am starting to like it again. Do you do the same thing I do? I love the concept I have in my head for a quilt. Towards the middle of the middle of making the quilt, I detest it and think it totally sucks but continue working on it. By the timie I finish the quilt, I fall back in love with it again. This Schnibble is not perfect but I think it is cheerful. It will make a good baby quilt. Wish me luck tonight so you can see it tomorrow!

Starting mine today

Okay, so I haven't finished my reading for my grad class. Everytime I think about doing it, my heart starts racing but not in a good way. And I had vowed to myself that I would finish the reading before starting my Winter White quilt for the Year of Schnibbles challenge. But now a co-worker is having a baby and I really should make a baby quilt and the pattern could have another row added to make it a baby quilt size so it really is my obligation to work on the quilt, isn't it? Okay, I think so too.

The co-worker does not know the gender of the baby (they want to be surprised) so shall I go pink and blue or yellow and green?

I have my pattern!

I received my Winter White pattern in the mail yesterday! I can't get started on it until after I finish my reading for my graduate class but it certainly will act as an incentive to get that reading DONE. And, I can just casually walk by my fabric wall and eye my fabrics and dream about what will look good in my first schnibble. How wild do I want to go??

Got my pattern

I have my pattern for a Year of Schnibbles. Couldn't find it at any of the quilt shops locally and the one place I found it on the web was already sold out. Finally bought it from Ebay. I am not planning to buy special fabric for it. I have a well supplied stash. I think I will do okay.

Did I do it right?

Well, I am new at blogging so I hope that I did it all right. I signed up to participate in the Year of Schnibbles (I hope). I really excited because I am not taking any classes this semester and may actually have some time to quilt. With this project, perhaps I will actually finish something!
