Art Show

I never did tell you the results of my participation at the Gardiner Art Walk.  I didn't sell anything but I didn't expect to.  I did set up a sewing table and worked on piecing some blocks. Some folks found that interesting.  I did get some traffic and some networking. On the whole, it was a good night.  I was going to take lots of pictures but forgot to charge my camera.  Only could take a couple before it died.

This is a piece I have had up on my wall for maybe a year just needing a binding.  I was excited to finally have the prod to get it finished.  It is white cotton fabric I wrapped around copper pipe and let rot in my compost pile for a couple of months.  The not-so-white fabric is layed onto a black linen that has birch leaves stamped on it.  There is lots of hand embroidery on the trees and the black linen is hand quilted.  It is really special I think.

The studio in which I showed my art had a three panel screen which I used to post some lino prints on fabric and paper.  The outer four are printed in different colors on different papers. The top middle is printed on fabric and quilted. The bottom middle is the carved lino itself.  The carving was based on a photo my sister-in-law took.

Lino Print

Okay, here is the proof of my fish print.  First one print and then a quad print (try not to notice that I accidently turned the print in the bottom left quadrant).  It needs a little smoothing on the edges to make the currents flow smoothly between the prints but it is not bad.

Lino Cut

Here is the first lino cut that I have finished for class. It is a study in positive and negative space.  I have tried to coordinate the designs on the edges so that the print can be repeated  above, below, and beside with a continuous flow of the currents throughout.

I will print it tonight on paper to proof it. Then (if it looks good) I will print it tomorrow on some hand dyed fabric.  If it looks really good (and I am ambitious) I will mask it and print the current in one color and then the fish in different colors. Whatever I do, I'll show you (unless it is an absolute disaster!)

Lino Print Class

I am so excited!  I can hardly wait for Monday.  Monday I am supposed to receive my first on-line class on lino printing on fabric.   I have dug out my tools and have ordered the inks and other supplies I will need.  And guess when my order is supposed to be delivered--Monday!  I might never go to bed Monday night

I have taken a relief print class before and have even made a print that was accepted into a judged show but it wasn't on fabric.  I tried to convert the technique to fabric but did not have much luck.  It did work a little better when I tried to intaglio rather than relief print the image but it still was not great.  Now  I am expecting greatness!  Well, in a couple of weeks anyway.  LOL

Get ready to see my experiments!  I have another technique planned for my March project on Interpret This! but I sure hope the picture for April's interpretation will lend itself to being hand printed.

I had a wonderful, long weekend practicing my dyeing techniques and assembling a quilt. I had meant the quilt to be a gift but I like it so much I think it will just be mine. I need a quilt for my bed.
I need to take some pictures of the dye project and the new quilt but till then, here is a picture of a 5 color reduction lino print I made this last Spring. It made it into the juried student show which pleased me a lot. The print is currently hanging in my office. The birch trees are at the end of my driveway.
